The Train Trip

I traveled by train from Los Angeles to Flagstaff, Az this week. Traveling by train in the US is an interesting experience, but not always pleasant. If you have to travel overnight, I suggest you invest in a sleeper.

If you eat in the dining car at all, you’ll be seated with others. I sat with two interesting women whom I discovered had taught EFL or ESL in some form. It’s surprising how many people we run into who have done it at some point in their lives.

Both woman had also worked for the Peace Corps; one in Morocco, the other in Thailand. We discussed that fact that although cultures were different, people are pretty much the same and have the similar needs. Also, we learn that by working with them, we glean at least as much as we give.
